Cross River State Security Adviser SSA, Mr. Jude Ngaji has decried lack of man power, capacity, finance among others as some of the challenges militating against the effective tackling of crime and other vices in the state.
Mr. Jude made this disclosure, Wednesday in Calabar to members of Partners for Peace (P4P) during a heart-to-heart session with the Non Governmental Organization (NGO) as part of his ongoing effort to mobilize public support to enhance the capacity of the security agencies as well as sensitize the public about their own roles in ensuring safety in the state.
While outlining some root causes of the increasing crime rate in the State, ranging from criminality to communal crisis, the SSA pointed out that the traditional institution which is the best body to instil peace in the communities and the state have not existed as one harmonious body for years now, which has adversely affected the peaceful coexistence of Cross Riverians.
Sharing some of his successes, Ngaji disclosed that he has adopted several measures such as dialoguing, forcefully keeping key players of any crisis in a room under the watch of his men and not releasing them until they work out peace within themselves and collaborations to institute peace in crisis and it has been working, he assured.
On the abandoned street children who are now getting involved in crimes and drugs, he enjoined P4P to mobilize other organizations with relationship with the street children for a round table discussion with his office for possible ways to re-orientate and rehabilitate the children.
The SSA accepted that the rehabilitation facilities operated by the State Government are not in good shape and not sufficient to handle their rehabilitation effectively. He concluded by assuring that his office will implement the outcome and resolutions of the meeting.
On his part, Nkasi Wodu while responding on behalf of Partners for Peace, assured that his team will stop at nothing in providing support that will bring crime in the state to the barest minimal.
He stated that through already established structures of the organization such as Crisis Early Warning Networks; Prevent Committee and others, the group will assist with the necessary capacities to deliver on the mandate.
