34 students of the College of Education Akamkpa have faced different disciplinary actions after being found guilty of indulging in examination malpractices by a committee set up by the management of the state owned institution of tertiary learning.
Information obtained from the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Cosmos Godwin by CrossRiverWatch indicate that a total of 34 students were involved in examination malpractice and were all made to face the College’s Examination Malpractice Committee for a hearing in line with the laid down principles.
17 students were rusticated, 3 suspended and 14 made to repeat the courses which they were caught indulging in the act.
The Chairman of the committee, Dr. Beatrice Arop told CrossRiverWatch that “the offences committed by the students range from impersonation, (to the) use of extraneous materials related to the course, sharing of ideas during examination, mutilation of registration number among others”.
When contacted, the provost, Dr. James Ejue disclosed in a telephone chat with CrossRiverWatch that the necessary procedures were followed before punishment was meted out to the affected students, each according to the gravity of the offence.
“The decision to invoke the relevant sections of the students’ handbook on erring students is in line with the College’s policy on ensuring zero percent tolerance on examination malpractice” Dr. James said.
