The city of Newark, New Jersey State of the US has expressed its willingness to partner with the Cross River State Government in the introduction of technology for new cities development, enhancing the capacity of the judiciary amongst others.
The Newark City Municipal Council led by the Mayor, Ras Baraka disclosed this during a meeting between the council and a delegation of the New Cities Development Board of Cross River State led by the Chairman, KJ Jedy-Agba held recently in the states.
The Deputy Mayor, Ugochukwu Nwaokoro while addressing the delegation said that the city will assist the state in areas including capacity building, development of the Judiciary, technology transfer, introduction of quantum energy as well as Hydroponics (a new technology for developing new cities which sees organic food produced on balconies).
Ugochukwu also pointed out that the Newark County produced the electronic recording technology used currently in Nigerian courts and trained judicial staff on transcriptions.
Also, the council President, Mildred Crump promised to visit the state in November.
Earlier, Agba had shared some of the state government’s plans and economic blueprints with the council and invited the Mayor to grace the 2016 edition of the Carnival Calabar.
He stressed on the need for both governments to explore areas that are mutually beneficial for partnership while the board secretary, David Attoe solicited for financial and technical support for the state to achieve its goals.
