The Cross River State House of Assembly Tuesday, passed into law the bill seeking to create the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme Agency into law in its sitting.
The bill sources say, will be tagged “AyadeCare”.
When assented to by the Governor, the Agency empowered by the Act will manage an insurance scheme that will ensure all residents in the state have access to effective, quality and affordable healthcare services said Honorable Ekpo Bassey who sponsored the bill.
CrossRiverWatch gathered the bill is a replica of the National Health Insurance Scheme with several alterations to suit the demographics in unique to the state.
The Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has in several for a, spoken passionately about the bill as the answer to a plethora of financial challenges and burden faced by Cross Riverians when they fall ill and has provisions that ensures the effect of the payments on individuals will be minimal.
Also, Cross River State Economic and Industrial Development Zone Bill 2016, Cross River State Disability Rights Commission Bill 2016 and Cross River State Infrastructure Safety and Regulatory Agency (Amendment) Bill 2016 were read for the second time.
Sources in Government House also informed CrossRiverWatch that Governor Ayade postponed the assent ceremony initially scheduled for this weekend to early next week as the bill is said to be a “big one”.
