The Governing Council of the University of Calabar has formally approved the suspension order handed down to the Bursar of the Institution, Mr Peter Agi, by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Zana Akpagu.
A release issued by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Moses Abang, indicated that at the 145th meeting of the Council held at the Council Chambers of the University, members were unanimous in upholding the suspension order after a careful perusal of the report presented by the Vice Chancellor on the reasons that gave rise to the action.
The release disclosed that the Governing Council replaced the investigative panel earlier set up by the Vice Chancellor with a Joint Council/Senate panel as prescribed in the law establishing the University.
It will be recalled that the Bursar was suspended after a protest that saw thugs and suspected gangsters barricade the school gate and attacking journalists and passers-by over lingering issues between the VC and the Bursar.
