The Cross River State Government says it will increase the monthly funding for its tertiary institution, the Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH.
The governor and visitor to the institution, Senator Ben Ayade disclosed this Thursday in Calabar when he addressed staff and students of the institution, challenging them to step up and live the name, “University of Technology”.
He gave a word approval to requests from the varsity community to increase the monthly subvention which currently stands at 169 million Naira per month, pushing it up to 200 million Naira.
Ayade then challenged them to live up to expectations by researching cheaper methods to generating power from Hydro sources through particle bombardment or any other means, to solve the power challenges of the country.
On security, the governor who said about 6 security patrol vans will be stationed within the CRUTECH vicinity as soon as the Department of Homeland Security and Safety starts, called on the community to continually live above board.
Following demands by the Students Union Government President to “bless them”, he promised 10 million Naira to be shared amongst the students and a bus for the institution.
Also, the governor disclosed that a mobile food bank will be established in the institution to cater for students as “A filled stomach is necessary for assimilation of what is been taught in the classroom”.
Earlier, Ayade who was not impressed that 3, 300 level Mechanical Engineering students could not define their course of study and Young’s modulus of elasticity, toured the engineering workshops alongside the chairman of the governing board, Emil Inyang and some management staff.
The governor’s visit drew excitement from the students who followed him round chanting various support songs about a year after he had drew their ire following unconfirmed reports that he claimed the institution produces “half baked” graduates.
