The Executive Secretary of the Obudu Urban Development Authority (BUDA) Canice Atsu, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.
CrossRiverWatch gathered the gunmen may have trailed Atsu all the way from Ogoja where he went for a function on Saturday and abducted him about 5 minutes after he arrived his home located along Ranch road in Obudu.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Irene Itohan could not be reached as at press time for comments as calls to her phone were not taken and a message not replied either.
Ikwen Atuaka in Obudu also reports that there has been an upsurge in crime recently with gangsters and several other criminal elements carrying out daredevil robberies “every day as there is no morning you wake and not hear of a robbery incident in one or two parts of Obudu, especially the urban areas.”
CrossRiverWatch also gathered that some gangsters arrested earlier in the year were not charged to court and have been released after paying “a huge sum” says a source.
The act, it is said, has emboldened the gangstas whose age bracket ranges from as low as 17 to 31 years.
Obudu, a few months back, was in the news for increased gangsterism which led the Governor, Senator Ben Ayade who hails from the local government to dispatch 15 officers in the Mobile Police arm of the Nigeria Police Force with 3 2015 model Ford Ranger utility vehicles to intervene.
The directive had ameliorated the situation with reported attendant harassment of innocent citizens.
