The Cross River state Commissioner of Police, Obi Ozeh, on Monday told newsmen in Calabar that a serving Corporal who is also a member of a criminal gang, was involved in the gun duel that ensued between gangsters and the police along Eyamba street in Calabar South LGA on 11th of October, 2016 leading to the death of Inspector Edet Archibong.

Speaking while parading three suspects at the Force headquarters in Calabar, the Commissioner said, 35year old Corporal, Kingsley Iyieke, an indigene of Rivers State serving with the Marine Police in Calabar, was a cultist and was personally involved in an attack on security operatives from X-Squad and Operation Skolombo on October 11, which led to the touching of two police vehicles by hoodlums and the killing of Inspector Edet.

Obeh said: “Unfortunately, one of the suspects, who was arrested for participating in the cult clash that led to the death of an Inspector, was one of our own.

“He has been arrested and dismissed. He was a policeman when he perpetrated the crime, but he is no longer one of us.”

The Commissioner also paraded other alleged criminals that the police have mopped up in their intensified operations to rid the city of miscreants as the state capital prepares to host the world for the Carnival Calabar/Festival.

He assured residents and visitors of the readiness of the police to ensure their safety.
