Cross River Government Approves Land For Banana Plantation, To Construct 23Km Of Roads In Akamkpa And Biase

The Cross River State Government has approved 250 Hectares of land in Odukpani local government area for the cultivation of Banana CrossRiverWatch can authoritatively report.

This was one of several resolutions of the State Executive Council, SEC meeting held Friday night.

The plantation will be managed by the investor, San Carlos of Mexico who is said to be the largest exporter of Banana to Europe.

The SEC also approved preliminary works for the construction of two roads in Akamkpa (10 Kilometres) and Biase (13 Kilometres) local government areas totalling 23 Kilometres.

Also, the SEC approved the purchase of Cocoa processing machines by AA Universal Agro Industries with one to be located in Boki as CrossRiverWatch gathered.

The SEC which was billed for Thursday did not hold with commissioners filtering in scantily and going back.

On Friday, the commissioners kept going in and out of Government House Calabar with the governor, Senator Ben Ayade spending over 2 hours at the Thai-Africa rice city project inspecting and directing clearing works.

He eventually left for his private residence at State Housing where sources said he had what some referred to as ‘Break-Lunch-Dinner’ before returning to the office at past 6PM for the SEC which dismissed at about 9:38 PM.
