Following the passage of the bill establishing the Nigeria Peace Corps, the Cross River state Commandant of the corps, Patriot Okweche Dominic has lauded the Nigerian Senate and the national commandant Ambassador Dickson Akoh.

Okweche stated this Thursday shortly after the announcement of the passage of the bill where he also charged officers to focus on the task ahead to ensure a peaceful and united Nigeria.

“I want to first of all congratulate our amiable National Commandant for his passion, commitment and determination to see that the bill to establish Nigeria Peace Corps becomes a reality.

“To the 8th assembly, especially the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of House of representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogora and members who sponsored this bill, I want to commend them for sharing in our vision. At some point in the last assembly, we thought this will never happen but today, God has made the dream of many years a reality.

“I have stated many times that security in modern times has gone beyond just weapons. Peace Corps is not new in global security. Most of the developed countries who are living peacefully today created this organization for about thirty years ago to tackle the intelligence aspect of security.

“I am happy with the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to security. I am hopeful that the President will assent to this bill as soon as possible. While we await the President’s assent, I want to charge all Peace corps officers to remain resolute and committed to building a peaceful and united Nigeria” Okweche said.
