A strange disease has broken out in 3 communities of Ogoja local government area of northern Cross River State.
Ogoja is over 280 kilometers north of Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The communities in question share a common water source a statement from the ministry of health said.
“The strange illness is characterized by sudden onset of vomiting, foaming in the mouth, body weakness and spitting out of blood with some deaths already recorded” the statement signed by the permanent secretary, Dr. Joseph Bassey on behalf of the commissioner, .

The statement also added that the public should be assured that the ministry of health “is doing all within its power to get to the root cause of this occurrence and has dispatched a team made up of Epidemiologists, Doctors, Community Health works and other related health staff to the affected communities to ascertain the real situation on ground and offer immediate medical assistance to those affected.”
The Medical Superintendent of the Ogoja General Hospital has also activated necessary emergency measures and commenced treatment of all affected cases the state said.
The public within the affected communities are urged to remain calm and go about their normal activities as the situation is under control, the statement added.
