Urban Development Authority Condemns Calabar Gang War

The Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority has condemned in totality the recent gangstar clashes in Calabar, the Cross River State capital which has left no fewer than 6 dead and more injured.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued on Tuesday by the Director General of the agency, Kingsley Ikpeme which described the killings as “an act of terrorism, barbaric and alien to Cross Riverians.”

The statement called on the youths; “Not to allow themselves to be used as agent of destruction” but, “they should see themselves as stakeholders in today’s governance, as (the) government of his Excellency, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State has shown his belief on the youth by the various appointments given to youths in the state which had never been before (sic).”

“The youths should see themselves as partners in the government of His Excellency Senator Prof. Ayade by contributing their quota in ensuring a peaceful state. As no meaningful development can take place in an environment devoid of peace and harmony.”

Ikpeme who described the state as “A hub of tourism and investors paradise,” said tourists have continued to flood the state due to “the peaceful disposition of the state and tourism” which he said serves as one of the revenue generating sectors of the state.

The youths should not allow those whose stock in trade is to ferment crisis, to mislead them, even as the Local Government Elections draws near in the state Ikpeme said.
