Spokesman to the Cross River state governor, Mr. Christian Ita has told CrossRiverWatch that the rumors making the rounds that the Special Assistant on Tourism to Governor Ayade, Mr. Eric Anderson has been elevated to Commissioner in charge of the ministry is premature and incorrect.
Governor Ben Ayade had penultimate week announced that he was resigning his position as the substantive Commissioner for Tourism.
While playing host to a delegation from Mafikeng, North West Province of South Africa, who were in the state for a 3-day working visit, the governor said that; “I am so blown away and taken aback by what the team from South Africa can unfold in just about two days. I feel thoroughly ashamed as Commissioner for tourism…
“I do recognize that at this point my Special Adviser on Tourism must be driven back into the front burner and possibly I have to disengage from that office as Commissioner for Tourism. I need to give it to somebody to give it the push, to give it the energy that is required,” Ayade said.
Since then, CrossRiverWatch learnt that congratulatory messages, phones call and text messages have flooded Mr. Eric Anderson’s phone from people who have either heard or have been told by Eric himself that he is the new Commissioner for Tourism.
On hearing about the spread of the information, a CrossRiverWatch reporter was among the many well wishers who called Mr. Anderson to congratulate him on his supposed appointment and he received the congratulations with very kinds words and thanks to God.
But when CrossRiverWatch contacted Mr. Christian Ita, the Senior Special Assistant and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor to confirm if Mr. Eric Anderson has been elevated to Commissioner, he said, “He hasn’t been made (Commissioner). The Governor is considering him for the position. But he hasn’t been appointed”.
