Women of Ababene community in Obubra local government area of central Cross River State recently took to the streets to protest alleged harsh treatment and attacks from their neighboring Iyamitet community.

CrossRiverWatch gathered that the issues that led to recent crisis between the two communities have not been resolved amicably with the Ababene women development leader, Margaret Afio telling this reporter that: “We have not being able to go to our farms because the Iyamitet people have made things difficult and unbearable for us.”

She alleged that the Iyamitet community often invade their farmlands, beat them including their husbands and chase them away from their farms.

The women numbering almost 100 trekked from Ababene to the Obubra local government council, a distance of over 20 kilometers and tendered their concerns to the local government administration.

They later visited the Paramount Ruler’s residence and the residences of several notable personalities in Obubra before heading back home.

As at press time, no official statement had been issued by the Iyamitet community with efforts to get comments unsuccessful.
