The Labour Party (LP) in Cross River state has appointed Mr. Maurice Bassey Ekeng as the Acting Chairman of the party in the State, and subsequently asked Mr. Baron Eyo to stop parading himself as the Acting State Chairman of the party.
This was made known in 2 separate letters obtained by our newsroom and signed by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji A.A. Salam.
The first letter titled ‘Appointment as State Chairman of the Party In Cross River State’ and addressed to Mr. Maurice Bassey Ekeng reads; “Following the vacuum created by the resignation of the former state chairman Austin Ibok whose resignation letter just got to me; this is to inform you that you Elder Maurice Bassey Ekeng has been appointed as the acting state chairman of the party with immediate effect.”
The letter further charges Ekeng to take “responsibility of immediately commencing activities of coordinating, mobilizing old and new members, revitalizing and revamping the party by bringing in serious minded politicians, prominent people and Nigerian workers of like minds and ideology into the party.”
The second letter addressed to Mr. Baron Eyo asking him to desist from referring and addressing himself as the Chairman of the party in the state reads; “Following the discovery by the National Secretariat that you Mr. Baron Eyo has been parading yourself as the acting chairman of the party in Cross River State. For the records, you were only verbally appointed acting state chairman by one Bobo Atari Adou. That directive/instruction was a nullity.
“It was also discovered that you were not a financial member of the party for a long time which is a breach of the provisions of the constitution as provided in Article 10(2) and Article 10(3). Every party property and document in your possession should be handed over to Elder Maurice Bassey Ekeng immediately.”
