At least 13 people are feared killed following renewed hostilities between Ofonatam in Osopong area of Obubra and the Izzi local government area of Ebonyi state.
A source in Obubra told CrossRiverWatch that the Izzi people hired mercenaries and attacked Friday morning with about 8 persons feared dead while a reprisal has led to about 5 deaths on the Izzi side.
The fighters are still in the bush with former minority leader of the seventh Cross River State House of Assembly, Honorable Alex Irek claiming the state has “abandoned the people of Osopong 1 and 2.”
The recent war succeeds another which claimed at least 3 lives about 6 weeks ago.
The communal conflict is due to a disagreement over the boundary CrossRiverWatch gathered with both state governors storming out of a meeting with then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo earlier in the year.
Ebonyi state Governor, Mr. Dave Umahi recently claimed that his Cross River counterpart, Mr. Benedict Ayade is yet to reply him after reaching out to settle the several boundary disputes between both states.
A resolution committee set up over 5 years ago with the deputy governors of both states as co-chairmen is yet to find a solution to the problem.
