Ayade In Ogoja, Reaffirms Commitment To Improve Local Rice Industry

By Jonathan Ugbal: Government House Correspondent

Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the state maximizes it’s potential in the rice value chain.

Governor Ayade stated this while on an inspection tour of the ultramodern rice mill under construction in Ogoja local government area of northern Cross River state as part of his itinerary for a two day tour of projects in the central and northern parts of the state.

Mr. Ayade while addressing residents who turned out en masse to welcome him said that the era when Cross Riverians produce rice and it is being taken elsewhere and packaged with a different brand name will soon be over.

He had broke ground for the construction of the rice mill in November 2016 while on a tour of the same senatorial districts and had said that when completed, the facility will look better than the United Nation’s building in New York, USA.

Ongoing work at the rice mill

In June 2017, the state said that the mill will be ready before December.

Recently, the state had announced that the mill will roll out its first finished goods by December which will be tagged ‘Ogoja Rice.’
