The speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Honorable John Lebo has said that the Nigerian political system is in dire need of pious practitioners and the best way to fill this is for Christian youths, irrespective of denomination to step forward and participate.
Mr. Lebo said God is keenly interested in leadership and posited that politics was no longer a secular business as generally perceived.
“The people rejoice when the righteous are in authority; and nothing stops you from joining a political party or even vying for a political office in Nigeria,” Mr. Lebo told the Executive members of the Dunamis Youth Ministry in Calabar led by Mr. Nsikak Effiong when they visited his office.
He maintained that beyond prayers, the practical involvement of the Christian youths will position them to effect the change they desire.
Also, he posited that good leadership was not only a rare factor in the country but also a bane to good governance and the development of the nation.
“It is time to volunteer your selves and make your voices count in politics of the country. What politics require is excellent and incorruptible leadership committed to selflessly serving the people and humanity in general,” said Mr. Lebo.
Earlier, Mr. Effiong said the visit was to invite Mr. Lebo for an event billed for October 3, 2017 that is targeted at rallying Christian youths for politics.
Mr. Lebo is scheduled to speak on the topic; “Christian Youths in Politics” said Mr. Effiong who solicited his support for the event.
