The Cross River State Police Command has written to the State command of the Department of State Security (DSS) demanding for the principal suspect in the attack on a suspended lecturer of the University of Calabar, Mr. Joseph Odok.
The letter which was sighted by CrossRiverWatch informed the DSS that the police will not be able to proceed with the investigation without the principal suspect, whom Mr. Odok has named as Patience Odey.
Sources claim that Ms. Odey whom CrossRiverWatch had earlier reported, based on information from security sources as been called Grace, has been released by the DSS.
The state police spokesman, ASP Irene Ugbo had told CrossRiverWatch that the DSS had handed the matter to the Police for further investigation and also confirmed that the lady was in Police custody and was helping the detectives to track her three accomplices still at large.
In that report, the DSS and Police said the attack was no an assassination attempt.
But confirmed information just emerged that the DSS handed only one of the suspects, Raphael Odu, a Director at the Cross River State Homeland Security Department, to the Police without the principal suspect, Patience Odey.
Mr. Odu was arrested after the incident and CrossRiverWatch reported details of how he alongside the girl, suspected to be his lover orchestrated the attack on Odok.
Sources in the police are also alleging that the girl has been released by the DSS and may have absconded from the state to as far as Lagos.
DSS sources have also confirmed that the suspect was not handed over to the Police but decline giving reasons why.
Meanwhile, Mr. Odok has been speaking and giving more details about his relationship with the suspect.
In several responses to Facebook updates on the matter, a seemingly angry Odok has been throwing jabs and disclosed that he actually met the suspect at Zanzee bar and that the girl invited him to have sex with her.
In one update, he wrote that: “When my ex student (whom Odok later named as Chris Abang) failed in getting me out at night to be assassinated on pretext of contract of media and legal job, he gave the girl my number to the girl to lure me through counsel on visa procurement, when the girl failed in getting me through visa, she took to luring me through sex.
“She practically failed because I never have in to entering Zanzibar (sic).”
Mr. Odok was stabbed by a quartet comprising Patience Odey and three men now at large on Monday at Zanzee bar with initial information from family sources suspecting it was an assassination attempt over his criticism of the current administration.
Mr. Odok whom CrossRiverWatch learnt is currently in Abuja broke his silence despite initial insinuations by his supporters that he was being silent because investigations were ongoing.
CrossRiverWatch had gathered that Mr. Odok had defrauded the said Patience Odey, an allegation Odok has denied.
