No fewer than 40 people in northern Cross River State have denounced gangstarism and gang related activities.
This is a sequel to the murder of one Mr. Modey which jolted residents in Ogoja local government area to move against the activities of those perpetrating crimes in the guise of gangstarism.
And, a peace and denunciation meeting organized by community leaders saw over 40 youths voluntarily denounce their affiliations with gangstar groups.
Wanted gangstars also turned themselves in at the event which held at the Ogboja playground.
The gangstars were then cleansed by a traditional leader; the Ogboja chief while a legal oath was administered by a lawyer.
CrossRiverWatch gathered this was aimed at reintegrating the gangstars into the community after they were cursed by community leaders not to return to the community due to their activities.
Emmanuel Idris in a post on Facebook said that the Ekajuk community had the most number of people who denounced; 16.
And, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Olatise Stephen assured the ex – gangstars of protection and charged them to report threat to their lives to the Police.
Residents also pledged support to the anti gangstar vigilante group to aid their work.
