The Cross River State Government has said that it is against armed agitations to the separation of Nigeria.
The Governor, Senator Ben Ayade stated this while addressing residents at the U. J Esuene stadium Monday in Calabar as the state organized a marching parade as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary.
Mr. Ayade who was represented by his deputy, Professor Ivara Esu said that the state wishes for peace in the country.
However, he said that they were certain areas of the constitution that needed amendment to ensure a speedy growth and development of the nation.
He called for the amendment of the exclusive nature of the mining sector which is controlled by the federal government and sued for a speedy constitutional amendment process by both national and state legislatures.
Mr. Ayade reiterated his administration’s resolve to take the state to greater heights and complete all projects especially the signature projects.
He sued for hope, patience and support from Cross Riverians and said Nigeria will only grow stronger and better as a country.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Rosemary Archibong said that Nigeria at 57 was not a failure.
She said this was evident in the increasing number of women participating in governance processes with Cross River state as an example.
Several educational, professional and corporate institutions participated in the march parade.
The competitive categories were won by the Army children school, Calabar for basic educational institutions and St. Patrick’s college Ikot Ansa for secondary educational institutions.
