A member of the APC and candidate of the party for the Bekwara state constituency in the 2015 general election, Barrister Akwaji DonHenry, has fingered the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the state for pulling down a billboard which he erected with Christmas felicitations inscribed on it in his native Bekwarra local government area of northern Cross River State.
Mr. Henry in a statement to CrossRiverWatch said that aside paying the necessary fees, the Police was also notified but kept mute when the billboard was pulled down.
It was erected at the junction leading to Ukpah, Mr. Akwaji’s community.
A source in Mr. Akwaji’s camp had earlier told CrossRiverWatch that: “The fact that we gave the Police who are always at that check point some money to protect the bill board, leaves us without doubt that a higher bidder showed up and the Nigerian Police in their style, gave in.”
Mr. Akwaji said that he has printed another banner and sent to be erected.
“I have printed another flex and sent home for a replacement, this time, I have directed that it be mounted at Ukpah market square where I come from,” Akwaji said.
A PDP source in the LGA who did not want to be named however dismissed Barrister Akwaji’s claims and said the lawyer is merely looking for attention.
