‘Bye Bye Mugabe Of Calabar South’ – Youths Protest Against Rep Essien Ayi’s Fifth Term Bid

By Ogar Monday

Hundred of youths from Akpabuyo, Bakassi and Calabar South local government areas on Monday protested against the fifth term of fourth House of Representatives man representing the constituency in the national assembly, Mr. Essien Ayi.

The placard bearing youths who marched under the aegis of ‘New Face’ to the House of Assembly complex in Calabar, the Cross River State capital had a couple of inscriptions on the placards including; “Bye Bye Nsamtim Mugabe of Calabar South,” and “Capital No to fifth term,” among others.

The leader of the group, and representative of Calabar South Mr. Anantigha Ambo, said that youths in the constituency have sat down and come to the conclusion that there is a need to change representation at that level to inject a new lease of life.

He said that the people of Calabar South have given Mr. Ayi unwavering support in his ascension to that post and have now withdrawn same.

On his part, Mr. Bassey Duke who said he was representing Akpabuyo said that Mr. Ayi does not own the Akpabuyo/Calabar South/Bakassi and therefore, should shelve his plans of going back to Abuja.

The Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr. Joseph Bassey (PDP, Calabar South 2) thanked them for conducting themselves orderly and asked that they continue in that light.

Mr. Bassey said he never brought himself to the Assembly, as he had once been a councilor and that his leaving the councillorship position opened doors for someone else, and therefore he is not a fan to sit tight politics.

He said he has heard their calls and with them and God on his side, “Abuja is where we are headed in 2019.”
