A total of 56 agencies have been withdraw from tax collection in Cross River State as a means of making the State business friendly.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, John Gaul Lebo broke the news about the Government decision over the weekend in what he called “Public Explanation” when he hosted members of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ) in Calabar, at the Assembly complex, where he posited that the Assembly is concerned that there are too many tax collectors in the state which makes the collection process cumbersome and in turn chase a lot of investors away.

“That is why we have taken out 56 government agencies from collecting taxes in this years budget so that a lot of the companies don’t get over taxed.” He said.

He further asserted that the Local Content Bill is very important, and stressed on the need to be conscious about the bill.

“The Local Content law is a very important. We have to manage the local content bill in such a way that we don’t drive away investors.” said the Speaker.

He concluded without naming the agencies.
