The Cross River State Government has said that it will soon embark on the sensitization of the citizenry to ensure the collection of the over 72,000 Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) currently in the custody of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Esu disclosed this in an interview with journalists Thursday in Calabar shortly after the commissioning of the secretariat of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists where he said the voters cards are very important.
“I think soon after this we are going to go into massive campaign to ensure that from all the wards we have to designate people to really know who and who haven’t collected his or her card so that we make sure efforts are made to reach such persons to collect their cards. Its very important,” Professor Esu said.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Frankland Briyai had said that there are 72,000 uncollected PVCs in the ongoing Continuous Voter’s Registration exercise of the commission.
And, Esu stressed that the trends have changed, and there was need to ensure everyone collects their voter’s card especially in an era where election rigging is no longer fashionable.
He reaffirmed the state’s resolve to sensitize the public and stressed that the trends have changed and with rigging becoming increasingly difficult, there was need to ensure everyone collects their voter’s card.
