JUST IN: Cross River Police Command Declares Total Support For IGP

By Archibong Jeremiah

The Cross River State Police Command has passed a vote of confidence on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris Kpotum, after the Senate declared the IGP an enemy of democracy and persona non grata, for failing to honor summons extended to him for a third time.

The IGP however decribed the action of the Senate as ‘deliberate blackmail’.

But in a swift show of solidarity and support, the CP of the Cross River state command, Hafiz Inuwa, told CrossRiverWatch on Wednesday that his command has absolute confidence in the IGP and stand solidly behind him.

According to the Cross River CP, “Due to the invaluable contribution made by the IG towards stemming of crime and criminality, and putting an end to impunity, coupled with the way and manner he encourages the police to be more professional and civil, the command solidly stand by the IG and support all his programs.”

The CP warned against the danger of politicising policing particularly now that the nation is facing daunting security challenges and urged Nigerians to support the vision of the IGP to modernize the police.

It will be recalled that the Senate Wednesday noon after a closed door meeting passed a vote of no confidence on the IGP.
