One person has been rushed to the Obudu clinic and doctors are already battling to save his life as fresh hostilities resume between the Bette people in Obudu LGA of Cross River state and the Tivs in Vandekiya LGA of Benue state.

Proprietor of Obudu Clinic, Dr. Abu Undiandeye, told CrossRiverWatch that, “One casualty has been rushed to the clinic and my colleagues are battling to save his life in the theater as we talk. That’s the only casualty for now and we don’t know of any in any of the hospitals in town.”

Another source who did not want to be mentioned said the crisis resumed since yesterday.

“Some of the fighters slept in the bush last night. But today we have a first casualty and he has been rushed to the hospital. The fighting continues.”

The cause of the fighting is still unclear but it is a recurring land/boundary crisis that comes with almost every planting season for more than two decades now.

Efforts by CrossRiverWatch to speak with the Police and to establish contact with the Benue end of the crisis is ongoing.

But multiple sources have informed CrossRiverWatch that the Divisional Police Officer DPO in Obudu visited the precints of war zone but there is very little he and his men can do.

Another source said, soldiers have been mobilized from the Brigadier Ally Barracks in Ogoja and from Markurdi in Benue to move in and contain the situation.

The source said the soldiers are on their way at the time of filing this report.

CrossRiverWatch is still trying to independently confirm that information.

It is noteworthy that there is an ongoing boundary war between the Izzi people of Ikwo LGA in Ebonyi state and the Ukelle people in Yala LGA of Cross River state.

Over 200 people have been reported killed in this other ongoing war.
