Ahead of the August 11, 2018 state assembly bye-election in Obudu local government area of northern Cross River, sources in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) say the rate of collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and Temporary Voters Cards (TVCs) by registered voters has increased tremendously.
“We have been having serious work to do and the number of people coming to collect their cards is more than what it used to be,” a senior INEC staff (names withheld) told CrossRiverWatch.
Two residents who got a PVC and a TVC told CrossRiverWatch that they were excited getting theirs after waiting for months.
But, the continuous voters registration (CVR) is still ongoing with INEC earlier announcing that it will end by August 15th.
Recall that the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Frankland Briyai had disclosed that as at March 2018, over 188,000 new voters were registered in the state. He had informed the governor in a meeting that Obudu has the highest number of newly registered voters.
However, it is unclear whether the CVR has continued in the past 72 hours.
