The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has inducted and licensed 143 new teachers in Cross River State.
The event was held recently at the Senate Chambers of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) with the Vice Chancellor of the Varsity, Prof. Zana Akapagu, TRCN Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Josiah Olusegun, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Chris Chukwurah, as well as the Cross River TRCN Coordinator all in attendance.
A total of 143 teachers from the twelve departments that make up the Faculty of Education in the University of Calabar were inducted into the fold.
The VC of UNICAL, Prof. Zana Akpagu lauded those inducted urging them to be dedicated to the teaching profession as the nation’s future is dependent on the educational sector.
Prof. Akpagu maintained that, “You have to be good ambassadors of UNICAL, the world depends on the training you have acquired here over the years and you must be proud.”
Concluding, he encouraged the inductees to have the future of the society at heart and reiterated that UNICAL will stop at nothing in producing teachers that will meet the educational needs of the country.
The Chairman of the Induction Planning Committee, Prof. Monday Joshua in his induction speech thanked God for the successful preparation of the 143 pre-service graduate teachers who have been found worthy in character and learning to be inducted into the prestigious and worthy profession of teaching; and licensed to practice as teachers.
“It is our prayer that Nigeria’s educational system would receive a boost with the entry of this new set of professional teachers; and the Faculty would be further motivated to produce more qualified and worthy teachers for the nation.”
