Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has described as tragic the death of factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, Dr. Matthew Achigbe as tragic.

Ayade, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Mr. Christian Ita expressed sadness over Achigbe’s death.

Achigbe, a retired permanent secretary in the State’s civil service died alongside his wife in a ghastly motor accident along Afikpo road in Ebonyi State.

He was said to be driving to his native Obubra home for a family meeting.

And, Ayade who said he received with shock the news about his death, described him as, “an elder statesman, a devout catholic and a community leader who lived a life of selflessness and dedication to the service of the state, his community and the church.”

He said words can scarcely comfort those he left behind.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this moment of unspeakable grief. The Cross River State Government shall work closely with his family to ensure he gets a befitting farewell,” the statement quoted the governor.
