The Muslim community in Cross River State has dissociated itself from an alleged endorsement of the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State for the 2019 general election, Senator John Owan-Enoh by the Sarki Hausawa Ogoja, Alhaji Adamu Yakubu.
The community in a statement signed by the secretary of the association of Imams and Scholars in Cross River State, Ustaz Abdulahmed Zikrulla and issued on Monday, November 19,2018 said Alhaji Yakubu’s alleged statement that the Muslim community has endorsed Mr. Owan-Enoh was a lie.
“The leadership and entire Muslim community in Cross River State completely disassociate themselves from the self-seeking and self appointed one Alhaji Adamu Yakubu who parades himself as the leader of the Muslim community in Cross River State and had paid courtesy call on John Owan-Enoh to declare his so-called leadership support and that of the Muslim community in the State to Enoh’s governorship ambition.
“Let it be known to the Cross River State government and the entire good citizens of Cross River State that Adamu’s visit to John Owan-Enoh is purely self seeking and personal and does not represent the Muslim community in Cross River State,” the statement read.
The association which said its office is located at the 146 Battalion Army Central Mosque, Calabar, also said it was in support of the Senator Ben Ayade’s administration in the State. It added that there was no breakdown of law and order that will warrant Alhaji Yakubu’s statement that the State needs rescuing.
“We appreciate fully the monumental developmental efforts ongoing under the leadership of the digital governor, Senator professor Ben Ayade,” the association said and called on the State Government and Cross Riverians to dismiss statements capable of disrupting the peace enjoyed by all residents including the Muslim community.
Findings by CrossRiverWatch reveals that Alhaji Yakubu had visited Mr. Owan-Enoh with the details unavailable as at press time.
Sources in his camp have fingered his rival, one Alhaji Salisu of sponsoring the above statement.
They also said that Mr. Owan-Enoh had requested to be photographed with Alhaji Yakubu and his supporters had gone to press claiming he had visited to convey the endorsement of the Hausa community in the State.
