By Kelvin Ololo and Patrick Obia

The Cross River State Government has denied claims that is is owing retirees who worked in the State system pensions.

The finance commissioner, Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr. told CrossRiverWatch in an exclusive interview recently that the State is only owing gratuities which it plans to pay soon.

Mr. Ekpenyong said he was not sure if the local government retirees were been owed pension as he has to confirm from the Local Government Service Commission.

He also spoke on the proposed minimum wage and other issues.

CrossRiverWatch had reported that the Association of Cross River Local Government Pensioners had recently issued a 21 day ultimatum to the State asking for the payment of pension and gratuities arrears totaling NGN11.5 billion.

The association threatened to occupy government offices at the end of the ultimatum until their demands are met.
