On Friday 28 December 2018, a young lady and graduate from the Federal College of Education FCE Obudu, Vivian Okpara alias “China gold” was forcefully seized from her apartment by some guys, stripped naked, beaten and dragged to the cyclists park in Obudu and roasted to ashes while a huge crowd watched.
She was alleged to be aiding and abetting robbers and kidnappers in the town.
But information reaching CrossRiverWatch is indicating that, contrary to the widespread allegations, the young lady may have been killed to settle a gang grouse.
CrossRiverWatch reported that on Thursday December 27, 2018, a member of a gang was killed in Obanliku LGA, which is next to Obudu LGA in northern Cross River State.
On getting the report, the Police in Obanliku moved in and arrested three suspected members of a rival gang in Obanliku and moved them to Obudu police division after their cohorts attempted to forcefully remove them from the poorly secured Obanliku police station.
CrossRiverWatch gathered from top security sources that the three arrested suspects went to kill the deceased in Obanliku on the prompting of their female friend and popular call-girl named, Lucy Abanka alias “Mama Fresh.”
The deceased is said to have been having issues with Mama Fresh who reported her to the gangsters who then went to kill her.
A security official familiar with the investigation told CrossRiverWatch that when the gang members of the deceased heard of his killing by rival gangsters and possible cause and learnt that Mama Fresh, who allegedly invited their friend’s assailants spent her night in China gold’s house in Obudu, they then informed members of their own gang in Obudu to trail Mama Fresh.
It should be noted that both Mama Fresh and China gold are friends and are both call girls in Obudu, said to be hanging out with some of the notorious gangsters in town.
When the gangsters stormed China gold’s apartment, a security source said: “They were actually looking to avenge the death of their cult member in Obanliku. They were searching for Mama Fresh who they said slept in China house. They were looking for how to avenge the death of their friend. They asked China to tell them where her friend is or they will burn her. But Mama Fresh had escaped from the house.
“The girl may have been involved with criminal activities in the past. We are investigating that connection but what happened during the week is what I just told you as we discovered from investigation.”
Our source who pleaded not to be named because he does not have the authority to speak on the ongoing investigation added that:
“Her killing by the mob remains a crime whether she was guilty or not. Only the law can prescribe how a criminal can be punished not a mob. So efforts are underway to get those who went to drag her from her house and those who burnt her. Our operatives are already in Obudu to hunt for her murderers. They have committed crimes and must be punished according to the law.”
Commenting on the gruesome killing of China gold, son of Nigeria’s longest reigning monarch and Paramount Ruler of Obudu, Prince Jedy Agba expressed shock that such incident could happen in Obudu and worst of all, to a stranger.
“There is no death sentence for any crime in Obudu tradition. All the tribes that make up the Obudu people of Cross River state, do not have death sentence in their punishment modules. We don’t kill people unless in war, talkless of killing a stranger.
“Even if you commit the highest crime in the land, the highest punishment according to Obudu tradition is banishment for 10 years.
“Even at that, your mother’s village (beshie’gang), will still be obliged to accept and accommodate you for the one decade and they are at liberty to come and recompense for your sins afterwards. So what happened to the young girl is strange to our land. It is barbaric and unacceptable and must be nipped in the bud. The police now have to move in to cleanse the land of such innocent blood.” He said.
