The Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Cross River State chapter, Lawrence Ekwok has said that the low turnout of voters in the ongoing Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections was predictable and expected.
The PFN Chairman who has just re-elected for a second term made his position known in a statement made available to our newsroom.
He said, “After the Presidential/National Assembly elections, most people came to the realisation that the powers that be are bent on having their way at all cost, against the wishes of the people. So many people came to the realisation that their votes would not count as the present INEC in collaboration with their pay masters have decided the results of elections before voting begins.
“So a lot of people chose to rest in their homes instead of going to waste their time in an exercise that will end in futility. The other reason why a lot of people stayed away from voting is the intimidation and killings done in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections using the military.
“You must have read that 39 or 43 persons were killed in the Presidential and National Assembly elections according to reports by groups, including observer groups. So they are people who do not believe that they should be killed for somebody to occupy an office for four years. It is unfortunate and very painful that democracy has nosedived in Nigeria”. He ended.
