Mr. Emmanuel Ibeshi, a former aspirant for the governorship of Cross River state under the PDP, has cautioned the public to take note that he has not pursued any case to any Court of Appeal anywhere in Nigeria in the course of the 2019 election either from the primaries or the main election itself.
In a highly anticipated statement on his verified Facebook ID, the former member of the House of Representatives also denied congratulating anyone after the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Mr. Ibeshi’s statement is coming on the heels of a fake news report that has been circulating on social media since yesterday purporting that the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division removed governor Ayade as the authentic PDP governorship candidate and replaced him with Ibeshi.
Those pushing the fake news, also created a fake Facebook ID with Emmanuel Ibeshi’s name, where the falacious claim was made and deleted the ID afterwards.
In a statement he titled: BEWARE OF FRAUDULENT PERSONS AND FAKE NEWS, Ibeshi said:
“My attention has been drawn to information making the rounds purporting that I have congratulated certain persons for whatever success or victory they might have achieved at the on-going general elections in the country at whatever level.
“It has also been brought to my notice that there is information out there, especially in some social media platforms of a purported Appeal Court judgement ostensibly to the effect that my name was to replace a governorship candidate for the coming election of March 9, 2019 for the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State.
“I wish to state categorically that I have not sent any congratulatory message to anyone, either directly or through any proxy, and the existence of anything of the sort in the social media is the product of the imagination of mischief makers and fraudulent persons who are out to cause mischief for their own selfish ends.
“Also, the public is to take note that I have not pursued any case to any Court of Appeal anywhere in Nigeria in the course of the 2019 election either from the primaries or the main election itself.
“Therefore, any so-called judgement of an appeal court is just what it is: FAKE NEWS. The public is hereby warned and advised to disregard such fake news, which is the product of unscrupulous elements who are obviously out to deceive and defraud the public.”
CrossRiverWatch had earlier contacted the Court of Appeal in Lagos where we confirmed that there is no such matter pending before the court.
