A veteran Journalist best known for his guerilla styled investigative journalism, Mr. Unimke Nawa is dead.
Mr. Nawa breathed his last on Friday, former associates confirmed to this reporter.
Nawa, a thoroughbred journalist rose through the ranks and retired as General Manager at the State owned Cross River Newspaper Corporation, publishers of the Nigerian Chronicle where he, at several times, served as Editor and Editor-In-Chief.
As Editor-In-Chief of the Nigerian Chronicle, the Obudu born writer discreetly ran a newspaper on the side know as “The Delibrator” which sought to provide an alternative voice for Cross Riverians and residents of the State due to the limits of the State’s paper caused by ownership influence.
One of the investigations he supervised was the revelation of the fraud behind the salaries owed staff of the Obudu local government area which led to the sack of a top local government executive, Mr. Canice Atsu.
Mr. Nawa had also served as Chairman of the Cross River State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists and in 2016 was elected Chairman of the electoral committee of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists.
He later opened and managed another newspaper, the Paradise Eagle.
As at the time of going to press, it was unclear if the family had begun arrangements for his final journey home.
