2019 Elections: Election Begins In 18 Local Government Areas In Cross River State.

Accreditation and voting is said to have begun in some wards and polling units across the 18 LGA of Cross River State to elect Governor and House of Assembly Members.

Few hours into the election a Party Agent of All Progressive Congress (APC), in  Okpok Ikpa community in Odukpani L.G.A are seen moving from house to house giving eligible voters the sum of N1000 to vote for APC.

The agent and his team while giving out the money said that the money was given to them by the APC Deputy Gubernatorial candidate Mr. Ekpo Okon to help them mobilize from the grassroot.

Our reporter on ground further added that the said N1000 is for transport, that the main deal will be after voting.

While in ward 12, units 1 and 2, the People’s Democratic Party were sighted giving out money to electorates to vote for its party, though the figure was not confirmed.

There is also a report of failure of card readers in some polling units where electoral officials are prompted to return to their offices to get replacements.

However, our reporters observed a poor turnout of electorates at the polling units in places like Obudu Uban 1, (ward 4 , polling unit 10) at Atekong street, Calabar Municipality also in Calabar South.

At the same time, there are more reports of voters’ reluctance in some parts as people are not interested in voting at Asanaya’s Palace in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
