The Vice Chancellor of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Professor Anthony Owan Enoh has expressed satisfaction over his years as a Vice Chancellor of the varsity saying he is proud of his successor, Prof. Emmanuel Unimke.
Owan Enoh stated this during the 2rd inaugural lecture held in the versity where he said he is looking up to see his children building mansions in the school.
His words: “I am very proud of my university, am very proud of what it is. On this last day of my leaving the university, I have found one of my children the one coming behind me building a house, I pray that when I close my eyes, in other word, when I leave the university I will see many of my children building mansions in CRUTECH, by which I mean they will deliver many more inaugural lectures that to me make it the meaning of a university. ”
He however welcomed invited guests.
Presenting the inaugural lecture titled “Politicisation of Wage Administration and Employee Productivity Conundrum in Nigeria’s Public Service” the incoming VC, Prof. Emmanuel stressed that if there is poor productivity in Public Service then something is wrong.
He opined that if the Government can apply a computerized system in which every worker that comes to work must punch in order to checkmate nonchalant attitude of workers .
His words, “If money does not improve productivity then there is problem somewhere, the wages in Public Service is determined by what is called bargaining power, the problem of wage Politicisation has given a number of challenges that has affected employee productivity.
“Some of this problems he said to include positive and negative work ethics. I will suggest that the Government should apply a computerized system to which every worker that comes to work, punch the machine as they come in and then when you are leaving you punch the machine so that at the end of the day we calculate how many days you are off.” He added.
Dignitaries that witness the event include the Vice Chancellor University of Calabar Prof. Zana Akpagu, former Cross River State Head of Service, Ntunkai Theresa Ikwen, Staff, members of different Unions and Students were in attendance.
