The University of Calabar is set to graduate a total number of Nine thousand One Hundred and Seventy Four (9, 174) students as part of its preparation towards her forthcoming 32nd Convocation ceremony, slated for this week.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Zana Akpagu made this known while addressing journalist at the School Senate Chamber.
Professor Akpagu said it will graduate Seven thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Two (7782) first degree holders, One thousand and Seven Four (1,074) Higher Degree holders and Three hundred and Eighteen (318) Ordinary Diploma students.
Meanwhile, in a bid to curb criminal activities ongoing within the school premises, Mr. Akpagu also disclosed the readiness of the institution to commission a Police Station, with a functional cell for reprimands, adding that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Austin Agbolahor has “inspected it, and is ready to deploy his men to man the post.”
“Security is one issue that is dear to our very heart. It is a serious challenge to us, but we believe that with the police station in the school, those cultists that would not give us peace in this school, will be apprehended and punished severely,” he said.
He also intimated the Press, about the University’s intention to situate a naval base on the left wing of the school, to intercept criminals who cross over the river bodies with their victims and valuables.
Other activities earmarked for the ceremony are, Inter-denominational Service at the UNICAL Conference Centre on Wednesday by 10:00am, Research Fair and Exhibitions, Convocation Lecture at same Conference Centre by 9:00am on Thursday, Convocation for Diplomas and First Degrees at the Abraham Ordia Stadium on Friday by 10:0am, and Commissioning of Projects, as well as Convocation for the award of Higher Degrees and Honorary at Abraham Ordia Stadium on Saturday by 9:00am
