The wife of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State, Dr. Linda Ayade on Monday cautioned youths against indulging in substance abuse during an interactive session with secondary school students as part of activities to mark the 2019 edition of the Children’s Day celebration.
The session had students from four secondary schools; St. Anne’s High School, West African People’s Institute, NYSC Secondary School and the Kings and Queens school and held at Mrs. Ayade’s office, a statement obtained by CrossRiverWatch said.
“The discussion with these extremely cerebral children focused on drug and substance abuse. The children displayed deft knowledge on the subject and the governor’s wife gave motherly counsel to them on the dangers of drug and substance abuse, how to avoid getting involved and how to recognize signs and help peers who might have been lured into the vice,” the statement read.
May 27th each year is celebrated as Children’s Day in Nigeria with the aim of raising awareness on issues of child rights.
It typically features dance, singing parade competitions between schools usually organized by local and state governments.
