The Cross River State premier private University, Arthur Jarvis, today matriculated Seventy-One (71) students into the faculty of Natural and Applied Science, One hundred and Ninety (119) into Faculty of Humanities, Management and Social Science, Forty-Eight (48) into Basic Medical Science and Thirty-Seven (37) students into the Faculty of Law.
Speaking while receiving the matriculants, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ani Nkang charged the students to uphold the tenets of the institution, shun cultism, while he also eschew other social vices.
As part of the school’s tenet, Mr. Nkang stated, “As a full member of the University community, it is among your obligations to maintain law and order, promptly pay school charges, protect University properties, respect the rights of staff and other Students, keep your surroundings clean and report any suspicious criminal activities to authorities.”
While also admonishing the entrants to pursue academic excellence, he added “I encourage every student to entrench the culture of discipline, hardworking, integrity and excellence in academic pursuit.”
Educating them also on what is obtained as students of the institution, the VC reiterated, “Every matriculated student is entitled to all rights and privileges recognized by the University. Such rights include, inclusion of the student in the matriculation register, obtaining the University’s identity card, living in the students hostel, right to access information in the library, right to represent the university at different fora and the use of available teaching and learning facilities in the university.”
Concluding his speech, he emphasized the University’s zero tolerance to drugs and cultism, while advising that the school’s code of conduct should guide every students’ behavior at all times.
Reacting on behalf of the matriculants, Master Victor Bassey-Anjeh, an entrants of Law Faculty, pledges to uphold the tenets, rules and regulations governing the institution, while also appreciating their parents for love them too much to bring them to such expensive school.
Some of the matriculants also shared their joy with CrossRiverWatch, while also promising to remain focused.
Miss Ndifreke Bassey from the Faculty of Law said “I’m happy to be here today and I’m grateful to my mum. She’s the only one I have so I’m promising that I will make her proud by finishing with a good grade.”
Master Okotu Valentine from Computer Science department said, “I feel very lucky and special. Though I had my first matriculation at Caritas University in Enugu but I withdrew because of my poor academic record. So I want to promise my parent that I will not that mistake twice. I will do everything to finish with at least a second class upper division.”
Miss Medline Anthony from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science also added, “I want to also charge all of us not to engage in cultism and every form of social vices, but we should rather face squarely our books and make sure we come out with good results at the exact time.”
The event also featured presentation of awards, traditional dance performance as well as Spoken words on ‘Shun Corruption’ by Miss Hilary Amanke, a matriculant of the Law Faculty.
Awardees at the event are, Equitorial Guinea Consul General in Calabar, Salavador Mangue Edjang, Brigadier General of Port Harcourt Grand Command, Brig. Gen. George Ikioumoton, Hon. Justice Charles Effangha, Mr. Jusuis Nnaji, Mr. Henry Akpati, and a host of others.
