The Executive Director of Rainforest Resources and Development Center (RRDC) Mr. Odey Oyama has responded to accusations of blackmailing the Cross River State Government Superhighway for a living.
The report of the State Government labelling Oyama as a conman was published on Daily Post and Swift Reporters.
Mr. Odey in his eight page response which was made available to our newsroom described them as “Vampires”.
The release reads in parts:
“The said publications were promoted by an extremely evil confederacy of deceivers and vampires, who wish to confuse issues pertaining to the Cross River Superhighway project.
“The project did not meet the expected standards of transparency and compliance with established due process.
“The annoyance of the evil confederacy is that Odey Oyama, the Executive Director of RRDC, has stepped out to disclose facts about the ominous ISPO that would place a debt burden of 300 million naira monthly, on not less than six generations of Cross Reverians for 180 years.
“That it is not advisable to embark on a road project that will cost the people of Cross River State of Nigeria a total sum of (Six Hundred and Forty Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Seventy Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Nine Naira, Twenty-Three Kobo.
“That the attempt to fund the said project through Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) that is expected to subsist for One Hundred and Eighty years (180 years) means an unmitigated disaster that will keep not less than six (6) generations of Cross Riverians in abject poverty and economic slavery.”
The organization concluded as follows:
“We, at the Rainforest Resource and Development Centre (RRDC) wish to state categorically, that Odey Oyama, the Executive Director of this organization, is determined to resist every temptation to divert attention from the principal issue which is the funding of the Superhighway project by ISPO for a lump sum of (Six Hundred and Forty Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Seventy Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Nine Naira, Twenty-Three Kobo, payable at Three Hundred Million Naira every month for 180 years.
“This, exactly, is the sin Odey Oyama has committed against the Government of Cross River State of Nigeria. But this is what we term the second era of slavery.”
