Arrangements have been concluded by the Government of Cross River State for the establishment of a State Model School in Obudu Local Government Area, as directed by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in order to benchmark excellence in basic education.
The Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Stephen Odey disclosed this while paying a working visit to the British Canadian International School presently undergoing construction in Kakum, Obudu LGA in the State.
He said the resolution to adopt the Model School Initiative (MSI) was as a result of the 18th and 19th quarterly meeting of UBEC Management with Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs.
The State Model School which he disclosed will serve as a feeder school to the British Canadian International School will deploy modern methods of teaching and learning with the use of interactive modules such as computers, tablets, whiteboards, internet enabled television sets, e-libraries amongst others.
Meanwhile, the SUBEB Boss has charged contractors at site to re-double their efforts in order to meet September deadline for commencement of academic activities at the British Canadian International School.
While inspecting the level of work done, Odey who expressed his displeasure with the slow tempo of the work, however commended contractors for not compromising standards in the quality of work done.
According to him “the quality of the work you are doing here is really good but you have slowed down your tempo and I am very unhappy about this. I am impressed with the quality of work, but my major issue is the slow pace at which the work is going. You need to speed things up because we have been given a standing order by the governor that academic activities must commence in this school by September. I will not condole anymore excuses, employ more hands if you need to, just step up. I am going to return here by next week, I am going to be here the whole week to monitor what is going on,” he reiterated.
The Project Manager, Jukok international, Phil Okoye assured of their commitment to deliver before set deadline.
“Finishing is more difficult, we are not relenting on our efforts. We are doing everything to ensure that you get only the best. I assure you if you come here in the next two weeks things will be different all windows and doors will be fixed, we have already started doing that. We will not fail you or His Excellency.”
