It’s barely twenty four hours since the last down pour in Calabar, Cross River State. A state which is reputed to be the cleanest state in Nigeria, but here are pictures of how the state looks, hours after the rain.
Our repoter who took a tour round to some strategic places, shows that the environment is unkept and very dirty.
Speaking with CrossRiverWatch, Mr. Victor Akpan said the state of dirt is one that calls for “immediate attention” while pleading with the Ministry of Environment to ensure residents properly dispose their waste regularly.
“Well as you can see the dumpster is unattended to, this is a small one. How I wish you came when it was full, you would have understood what we face here.
“The smell that comes out from there is very bad, you cannot eat because of the bad smell. I want to use this medium to plead with the Ministry of Environment to help relocate the waste-bin to somewhere else away from were people reside”.
Mrs. Agnes Tummy, a petty trader, who sells along Atimbo also affirmed that the stench prevents people from patronizing her business.
“I don’t feel fine because of the smell,but I thank God all the same that they (environment agents), use to help us and park it. But for awhile now they have not come to clear it cause they have not been paid.
“It’s smells badly, people passing by complain alot about it,and as a result of that people hardly come around to eat”.
