Yakurr: Warring Communities Resolve To Live In Peace

The peace meeting between Inyima, Assiga and Ekpeti communities

Three communities in Yakurr which have been at loggerheads for decades have resolved to live in peace.

The communities are, Inyima, Assiga and Ekpeti.

The trio fight for a small piece of land that has claimed the lives of hundreds over the years may be over as a peace agreement was signed at a meeting on Sunday.

The Clan heads, leaders of youth, women and religious groups were all in attendance including the Heads of the two police divisions in the areas.

The Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana who acts as the Paramount Ruler in Yakurr attended the meeting alongside his colleagues from the three communities.

Also in attendance was the Chairman of the Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler of Bakassi, Etinyin Etim Okon Edet and his counterpart in Biase, Onun Apostle Nicholas Odum.

Religious and traditional hatchet burying rites were carried out before a small feast to celebrate what is expected to be a new dawn in the relationship between the three communities.
