The Executive Director, Citizens Solution Network, Mr. Richard Inoyo has maintained that the sure way to curb crime from its bud is to have State Police.
Richard who featured as a guest on Hit 95.9 FM regular Sunday program “The Dialogue With Agba Jalingo” which airs 6-7pm warned that the pace of criminal activities in Cross River State has become worrisome leaving one wondering the function of Government.
The 190 episode of the topical radio program also had Dr. Agam Ayuk, Cross River State Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) as guest. But the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo after being confirmed for the program and agreeing to be on phone refused taking calls when the program was live.
According to him, “Let the State Government to be given the right power to be their own Chief security officer of their own people. I think the Nigeria constitution is one of the biggest threat to insecurities in the country today. Until when we call for the right reforms and get something from the exclusive list and concurrent list, I tell you we will still be having this issue. It is painful to know that kidnapping is ongoing.
“The problem we are currently facing today is something that over the last 10-15 years we have been nurturing. In the next ten years, if we don’t take certain actions and certain Police response, we are going to have a more serious cases.” He warned.
On the high rate of kidnapping in Cross River State, he advised people not to showcase their new acquisitions on social media as criminals also have their online surveillance in order to prey their victims.
“I will like people not to go online to talk about their new cars, new houses because while Police mount surveillance in online communities across, I want to let you know that there are criminals out there who does online surveillance also to monitor you. So when they see you have a new car, new house you make yourself visible to be a target.
“I will like to see communities come together and see how they can mount the right structures for themselves; common gate, mount armed Policemen to watch those facilities.” He beseeched.
