Information reaching our newsroom suggests that Mr. Akeem Ibrahim, the owner of Amber Lounge; a karaoke and bar outfit in Calabar, the Cross River State capital has been kidnapped.
Mr. Ibrahim is said to have been kidnapped on Monday night near Liberty Gospel church which belongs to Mrs. Helen Ukpabio, a clergywoman known for her self-acclaimed “witch-hunting” powers.
The church is located at a street off the popular Ndidem Usang-Iso road, easily referred to as ‘Marian road’ by locals.
Sources say Mr. Akeem was driving in his ash colored Dodge Challenger with license plate number ‘AAA127GB’ when he was kidnapped.
Mr. Akeem’s Amber Lounge currently occupies the building which the Cross River State government had set aside for its job center commission and allegedly belonging to the commissioner for information, Mr. Asu Okang who was at the time of commissioning, the commissioner for youth and sports development.
He moved into the building in 2019 less than two years after his former landlord, Barbara Abang had accused him of fetish practices following the unearthing of suspected charms at the premises of the building which housed her restaurant, Southern Fried Chicken and the Amber Lounge. He had claimed that it was a traditional practice.
The building which is next to where the Amber Lounge is now located.
The Police is yet to issue a statement. Also, repeated calls to the Police public relations officer in the state, Irene Ugbo did not connect.
