A four man Committee has been set up by the Cross River State Judiciary to look into and resolve the issues of alleged abuse and assault on Mr. Otu Okon Edem by Justice Agness Onyebueke of the Akamkpa High Court division.
The panel was set up weeks after a video surfaced on social media (6th March 2020) by Deborah Edem calling on the Cross River State authority and other relevant agencies to investigate issues of alleged abuse and assault mated upon her brother (Mr. Otu Okon Edem) by Justice Agness Onyebueke.
According to the video the Judge has on several occasions abused her brother who is a senior driver posted to her office.

Upon examining the video, Mr. Otu Okon Edem was invited for an interview to verify the claims by his sister.

After validating the claims, he revealed that he has instituted a case with the Police and investigation is ongoing.
Barrister Fidelis Onyebueke, husband to the Judge when contacted to get his account alleged that Mr. Otu Okon Edem is being sponsored to destroy the name of his family.
He accused Okon of being a drug abuser and had made open threat to kill his wife.
Barrister Fidelis Onyebueke showed a letter to this reporter dated 9th March, 2020 by Kufree Eyamba (Registrar High Court Akamkpa division) to the Edem Okokon, Chief Registrar, Judiciary Headquarters, Calabar titled “Report of the Incident Between Justice Onyebueke and Otu Okon Edem.”
In the letter, Kufree Eyamba said on 13th January, 2020 he queried Okon after the Judge lodged a complain with him and a reply was given same day.

Barrister Fidelis Onyebueke further alleged that Okon is being sponsored to do what he’s doing and had knowledge of his son undergoing operation but chose to fight him.

The four man panel is to seat from Tuesday 7th – Friday 10th April, 2020. Mr. Edem Okokon, Chief Registrar is the Secretary of the Committee.
