An Allied Air cargo plane conveying cash belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday, landed at the Margaret Ekpo international airport (MGK) despite a ban on local and international air travel.
The ban was occasioned by the need to curb movement in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And, an aircraft conveying over two dozen expatriates from the United States and Canada billed to land at MGK was also turned back recently.
But, there were concerns from residents after the Allied Air cargo plane touched down.
And, the health commissioner in Cross River, Dr. Betta Edu who confirmed that an aircraft landed in Calabar said there was no passenger drop off but a cash drop off.
She further disclosed that the state was not informed about the flight itinerary.
Further checks by CrossRiverWatch also revealed that Nigeria’s aviation minister, Hadi Sirika had said certain flights would be allowed if given the necessary clearance by the ministry.
