The Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University Akpabuyo, Sir Arthur Archibong has lauded the Cross River State Government for its stride so far in preventing the spread of the deadly Coronavirus in the State.
Sir Archibong in a press release went on to urge the State Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade to reconsider his work resumption directive to Civil Servants of grade level 10 and above.
In his words, “I commend the State Government’s free distribution and enforcement of the usage of face masks by residents.
“However, I also appeal to the State Governor to reconsider the order directing Civil Servants from level 10 above to resume work on Tuesday, 14th April, 2020, and synergize with the medical authorities such as the World Health Organisation, Nigerian Center for Disease Control and the Nigerian Medical Association, following the exponential rise in number of infected persons.
“There is serious need for caution as the Nigerian Center for Disease Control announces new cases everyday; the curve is yet to be flattened.”
Furthermore, he maintained that the pandemic has kept the world in a state of panic as casualties are on the increase.
He said, “Nigeria has announced over 300 cases, an increase of more than 1,000 percent if calculated on month-to-month basis.
“Personally, I’m worried about the attitude of our indigenes in flouting Government’s directives, especially those close to the borders. Therefore, it has become pertinent to identify and equip isolation centres in all Local Government Areas and train enough health workers. There is also need to develop TESTING capability and put measures towards CONTACT TRACING where the need may arise.”
He concluded that “it is not yet uhuru and therefore not too safe for life to return to normalcy.”
His institution is the first to contribute to the State’s effort in combating the dreaded COVID-19.
